About
Bio
Born in Zgharta, Mitchell Kanaan moved to the United States as a teenager before returning to Lebanon, where he is currently based. His early studies in media, theater, and political science shaped his sensitivity to narrative, structure, and human interaction. As a self-taught visual artist, Kanaan developed his practice through drawing and sustained experimentation. Over time, this process led to a personal visual language that reflects both his lived environments and his long-standing engagement with material and surface.Artist Statement
Mitchell Kanaan’s work emerges from an interest in irregularity, repetition, and material depth. His practice combines elements of pointillism and naïve art through a self-developed three-dimensional mosaic technique, refined over years of experimentation. By layering paint to construct surface and rhythm, Kanaan allows form and texture to evolve organically. His work draws inspiration from social interactions and observed details of the environments he has lived and worked in, resulting in compositions that balance structure with intuition.
